Seven Poems by Kosaku Yamada (1886-1965). For Piano. 20th Century, World. Intermediate. Sheet Music Single. Published by Sonic Crossroads (S0.6815).
"Japanese composer Kosaku Yamada (1886-1965) composed ""Seven Poems"" in 1914 as a set of short character pieces similar in vein to those of Robert Schumann whose work and that of other German composers must have influenced Yamada during his student days in Berlin (1910-1913). Yamada's subtitle ""For Him and Her"" also refers to the contrasting nature of the pieces, alternating between slow and fast, lyrical and dance-like, even Japanese and Western - as a kind of commentary, perhaps, on cultural and musical differences. The set is an excellent teaching cycle for intermediate pianists, though the third piece (heard in the audio clip) is even suitable for late elementary students. ".
